I was recently asked the following. If you have any questions that I might be able to answer relative to piping and/or my piping, please do not hesitate to ask.

Hey Daegan
Is that a bag-pipe solo in Under The Milky Way by The Church (from the 1980s)?

T,
Responding to you here since I didn't see this as a topic fitting into the other tribe.
I'm vaguely familiar with the tune you're talking about because The Church never really did it for me. A lot of folk I know/have known who I respect their musical sense thought well of the group, and maybe The Church is/was good, but it just never worked for me beyond one or two tunes.
I know that in at least one tune they did somehow use Highland bagpipes. Whether they had an actual set played or they used a sample, I don't know. What I seem to recall is that they had multiple sets in use on the recording -- so a pipe band....
I can't tell you any thing more -- I'm just not familiar with them or the tune. A buddy of mine -- a musician and a fellow in the local Scot community -- has talked about this tune w/ me before, he'd probably know better in fact. What I can tell you is that House of Pain did not use Highland bagpipes in their tune "Jump Around" -- tho some people think this and carry the opinion that pipes sound bad due to this -- this whole thing comes from the video to the song... the image of Highland bagpipes being played is shown, and at the beginning of the tune the group (I understand) used a sample of Prince (or whatever his name formerly was this week) doing one of his signature screams.
Hope that helps,
D
