Spotted!

So yesterday I participated in the Seattle St.PatParade. I knew I made it onto a couple of news cameras, but a friend of mine called to say that he saw a good deal of me actually. He said something about "...they didn't go right up your kilt, but almost...".

OK, I'm not expecting -- even thinking -- of becoming famous off of piping... but if I did gain publicity, I want it to _not_ be in any sort of Ron Jermy kind of way.

Ahh well -- hey! -- had fun yesterday with the parade. It looked a little bigger this year than it did last year -- more participants and more audience. It was a bit warmer too, which made things far better -- it really bites when you're out in public trying to perform and you can't feel your hands. Got to hang out with some of my friend, saw a pipe band I've never seen before (meant to go talk w/ them but I missed it), got 1-2 offers to join another (local) band (I was flattered, but I'm looking to stay solo -- at least for now). Yeah, nice day. The Irish Heritage Festival at The Seattle Center had the same gusto as always -- sadly though, it was about 1/2 the size of presentation as it usually is. Still, I had a nice time, it was good to be there, and I met some really great folks.

So, who's up for FolkLife this year?
    NORTHWEST FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL 2005
    May 27-30, 11 am-11 pm · Seattle Center · Rain or shine!
Northwest Folklife, founded in 1972, is an independent, nonprofit organization that promotes the cultural heritage of Pacific Northwest communities. Supported through individual donations, grants and sponsorships, Northwest Folklife is the most visible advocate of the traditional arts in the Northwest region. It presents the annual Memorial Day weekend Northwest Folklife Festival, education programs and other public programs. In addition, Northwest Folklife produces recordings, publications and exhibits and provides research and consulting services.
We should arrange a day/time to hook up!
    It'll be fun!
We can wear our all black and leather and scare the yuppies and hippies!

Well, I'm planning on playing -- ideally at my favourite spot -- the bike racks next to the Centre House. I'm also planning to play with my band -- The Bag'n'Pipe Hoppers -- www.myspace.com/thebagnpipehoppers -- if you haven't caught us yet, its pretty wild.

Come find me, ask me about when and where my band is playing. Ask me if I need to go to the bathroom and offer to sit with my stuff and hold my busking space. Ask me if I've remembered to put on sun-block and if I've consumed any water. Yeah, this stuff happens while busking.

Lastly, if you haven't heard me say anything about it yet... There's been some rumor that the folks who in part put on Folklife & BumMershoot are intending on annexing drummers and bagpipers to particular busking positions where we will maybe not PO the vendors who have come to a music festival and then complain about musicians -- go figure. Anyway, more recently I've read this article -- seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/...m.html -- which seems to indicate that they can't push us around because that messes with our 1st Amendment Rights... so I'll see what happens when I get there.

Ghesh!, the life of a busker...
